Every year there are countless instances of household damage from water leaks. The costs of such damages can be astronomical. The cause: ruptures in the pipes caused by corrosion, pitting etc. or failures at the point of use (leaking toilet, loose washing machine hose, broken faucet connection, etc.). A ruptured water pipe or PRV is especially troubling as it causes tremendous damage and can occur when you least expect it.

The Waterstop is a patented device that monitors your complete domestic water supply system. The Waterstop is installed at the point of entry to your home and monitors water flow. When water flows uncontrolled through the device, the Waterstop shuts off the flow, protecting your home from flooding. Can also be used to protect your rainwater cisterns from unexpectedly emptying.

The device also helps to detect less dramatic water losses for instance, when taps run continuously, cistern seals become porous, the supply pipe to the washing machine leaks or the garden is being watered for days on end.

Where other leak detector systems use water sensors placed on the floor in the hope that will be the exact spot water leaks, the Waterstop utilizes intelligent logic that the user programs in to determine when water flow is unwanted (see below for details).

Most home insurance policies state that if you are not to be home for three days you have to shut off your entire water system or have someone competant inspect the home every three days or you will not be covered for flood damage. The Waterstop has a vacation mode feature: if there is no water flow for 72 hours, the system will block the water flow until you return home and reset it at the touch of a button.

The Waterstop can be programed to stop the water flow when:

  • A maximum flow rate (e.g. > 4, 9, 18, or 35 GPM) is reached (e.g. ruptured water main)
  • A maximum water volume (40, 75, 150, or 300 gallons) is reached (e.g. to prevent cisterns from emptying)
  • An uninterrupted flow time (30, 60, 180 minutes or 12 hours) is detected. (e.g. a leaking toilet or faucet)
  • After 72 hours with no water flow (Vacation mode)
