Overview of Surface Water Systems Surface water sources encompass any water that comes from a lake, river, stream, spring, or well less than 25 ft deep. Contaminants found will vary widely with naturally occurring elements or surrounding geography. Naturally occurring minerals and metals are often found, and chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, gasoline, etc. will leach into the water from cities, storm drains, farms, roads, etc. Any surface water is extremely susceptible to bacterial contamination and you should have safeguards in place for this. It is very important to be testing your water on a regular basis to ensure your source is still safe. |
