Bacterial Contamination of City Water

Contamination of municipal water by bacteria happens more than most people know. For example, at any given time, there are over 300+ boil water advisories in British Columbia. With the sampling and testing procedures in place today, there is always a lag time between when a contamination takes place and when the boil water advisory is given. In some extreme cases this can be months, and an advisory is never actually made public.

Chlorine and chemical disinfection will kill most common forms of bacteria including E. Coli, but it will not effectively kill cysts such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium.

Removing bacteria, cysts, and parasites

  • Ultraviolet Disinfection is the most cost-effective and maintenance free method. UV will kill any bacteria, virus, or parasite to provide you with safe, reliable water.
