Chlorine and chloramine are the most widely used water disinfectants in use by municipalities. Chlorine is an oxidizing agent and changes into new compounds called trihalomethanes including chloroform and boroform. Chlorine and THM’s have been linked to asthma, cancer, skin disorders, and may be a carcinogen. Chlorine will dramatically alter the taste and odour of foods that are made or washed with chlorinated water.
